Poland is It!

May 29, 2012

From 3rd to 10th of June, Polish Photo and Travel Association in Norway  www.klub-zdobywcow.no , will present their impressions of Poland in the gallery Vepsebolet in Oslo.

Living abroad, we all have images of our motherland and we long for different things. Some miss the smell of the freshly mowed meadows, some crave for Polish food and drinks, some think of  places where they were growing up.

All this, translated to the language of images, will be presented during the exhibition. Later on, the photos will be exposed at the Deichman library in Oslo at Majorstua, Harald Hårfagresgt 2, from 11th June to 14th of August 2012.

Lipstick

March 24, 2012

Fotografiens Hus is pleased to present “Lipstick”, a solo exhibition of photographs by Klaudia Iga. Please join us on Thursday, March 29th, 2012, from18.00 to 21.00, for the exhibition opening and to meet the artist.

In the exhibition, Klaudia Iga presents a series of photographs that shows a specific understanding of femininity. She strives to challenge the way we normally see women depicted in Western art. Klaudia Iga refers to different shades of femininity, that all have one common denominator, the red lipstick.

Klaudia’s installation is comprised of three series of photographs that depict to three parts of lipstick history. In medieval europe lipstick was banned by church because it was believed to be incarnation of Satan. Just like murderous females it evoked fear.

In 1770 a British law was proposed to the Parliament that a marriage should be annulled if the woman wore lipstick before her wedding day. Just like masked ladies trying to hide something.Nowadays lipstick is a common attribute of femininity. The portraits shows the antidote all females find in red lipstick.

Klaudia Iga Jastrzebska, born in 1985, is a photographer from Poland, who now resides in Oslo. She completed her Master’s degree in 2010, and got a Dean’s Award at graduation from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw.

During last five years she has taken part in exhibitions from New York, Paris, Warsaw, Cologne, Zingst among others. Her work has been published in magazines such as ‘Fotoakt’, ‘Oslo’ and also awarded in Warsaw Festival of Art Photography (2009 and 2010) by the magazine ‘Artluk’, Canon and The Warsaw Uprising Museum.
