Out of Colors

From 1st to 31st January 2012, Galleri Stylo Design in Hvervenbukta, the most beautiful beach of Oslo-fiord, presents the works of Edith Stylo. This is the very private and personal impressions around the betrayal and lies, and the deformed inner landscapes.

The gallery is a popular place for sunday-walkers where they can enjoy a cup of freshly prepared coffee and also see the collection of tricots designed by the same artist. It is open every Sunday in January 2012 from 12 to 16hrs.

Edith Stylo is the Chairman of the Polish Club in Norway and is known for many initiatives and cultural events. Each year, she organizes Polish Days in Oslo, the event that presents Polish artists to Norwegian audience. She is without doubt the most prominent representative of Polish community.

Waraksa painting exhibition in Oslo

From 9th to 21st December, at Vepsebølet gallery in Oslo, there will be exhibition of Margaret & Konrad Waraksa paintings. Both artists come from Poland and live in Oslo.

Margaret uses her own pictorial language to express her individual way of perceiving reality. Konrad highlights with colors.

Polish composer in Oslo

On Sunday 13th November 2011, at 6 pm in Norwegian Academy of Music, Majorstua, Oslo, there will be concert of works composed by Polish musician Pawel Mykietyn. Free entrance, meet the composer and have a glass of wine. For Norwegian audience, he might be known as creator of music for the movie “Essential Killing” by Jerzy Skolimowski. 

Pawel Mykietyn is widely considered as the most celebrated and recognized current Polish composer. Polish press described him as a “successor to the three greatest- Witold Lutosławski, Henryk Mikołaj Górecki and Krzysztof Penderecki”. His latest masterpiece-the III Symphony inaugurated the assumption by Poland of her first EU Council Presidency on 1 July 2011.

The concert was organized on initiative of Aleksandra Sobon, Polish pianist living in Oslo in cooperation with the Embassy of Polish Republic in Norway.

Eternal Dreams

Gallery Stylo Design in Hvervenbukta, Oslo, invites for exhibition of oil paintings of Polish artist Waldemar Tluczek from 13th to 27th November 2011. His works are defined as magical realism and are dreamlike collection of symbols and phantasies, inspired by Norwegian fairy tales.

Poetry festival in Oslo

On Friday 11th November 2011 at 9 pm, prof. Nina Witoszek will introduce documentary movie of John Albert Jansen (Netherlands) about Nobel Prize winner Wislawa Szymborska, poet from Poland at the Poetry Festival in Oslo, at Litteraturhuset.

“End and Beginning” presents a unique portrait of a poet, based on the memories of famous people from the Polish cultural life, that takes us on travel through her works and Poland´s history.

When Wislawa Szymborska was honored with a Nobel Prize in 1996, she was unknown, after that she become one of the most Popular Polish poets of our time.

Polish young film-makers present

Cinemateket at the Norwegian Film Institute in Oslo will present movies of 5 Polish young film-makers from 3rd to 13th November 2011. Since political system change in 1989, over 500 movies were made but no new film directors gained the same position as Wajda, Kieslowski and Polanski. However, the movies presented in Oslo, are worth seeing just to get an overview and make opinion on what is going on in Polish film.

Mother Theresa of Cats by Pawel Sala is based on a real tragedy when two sons murdered their mother (illustration photo).

Erratum by Marek Lechki, 2010, is a road-movie that won prizes at the international film festivals.

All that I love by Jacek Borchuch, 2010, tells the story of the young musicians forming a band in 1981.

Little Rose by Jan Kidawa-Blonski, 2010, is inspired by the story of big Polish writer surveyed by security agents.

The Christenning by Marcin Wrona, 2010, an action thriller, presents the underworld of Warsaw.

The presentation of movies in co-operation with the Embassy of Polish Republic in Norway.

Operation Opera in Cracow and Oslo

Operation Opera is the first Polish-Norwegian cabaret, a project based on interviews with Polish workers building Norwegian prestigious Opera (photo by Erik Berg). Nina Witoszek-Fitzpatrick, professor of the University of Oslo, published in 2008 a short story about cultural challenges on both sides of the building project. This inspired Norwegian classical and jazz music composer, Helge Iberg to write the music, while David Chocron, Norwegian-American comedian, contributed with his performance.

The show has already been presented in Cracow, while starting from 21st of October 2011, it will be possible to see it in Oslo.

Polish professionals in Norway

From 15th October to 26th November 2011, Photo and Turism Association in Norway, the Explorer’s Club, invites to the exhibition of their works in the very center of the city, at Oslo’s underground station Jernbanetorget.

The photos present Polish professionals at work and during their leisure time. Since Poland become the member of European Union, Polish population in Norway became the largest of all immigrant groups and consisted mostly of blue-collar workers.

This exhibition shows Polish professionals in Norway, from highly skilled scientific and IT-staff to artists and musicians.

Polish-Norwegian Photo Platform

Post-industrial architecture of Krakow and Oslo will be presented on exhibitions in both Poland and Norway.

From 16th September to 2nd October 2011, Gallery Stylo Design in Oslo and Willa Decius www.villa.org.pl in Krakow will show the results of this summer photo sessions, 34 photos 70 x 100 cm by 18 photographers from both countries.

Old industrial buildings from Nydalen in Oslo or Erdal-factory in Krakow are attractive today, as both nostalgic photo objects and modern offices and apartments.

Polish theatre in Norwegian sculpture park

Friday 9th of September 2011 at 7 pm, Polish theatre “Wiczy” will be featuring in Klosterenga sculpture park in Oslo, together with “Nordic Black Theatre”. They will present KUMP, an allegorical story about solidarity, integration and personal independence, as a result of search for common elements in Polish, Norwegian and non-European cultures. This project was possible thanks to EEA Grants for cultural exchange provided by Norway, Lichtenstein and Iceland.

Klosterenga park in Oslo was created by Norwegian artist Bård Breivik over several years, as an alternative to Vigeland park, and a common place for people coming from distant cultures, where they can meet and merge into one peaceful neighborhood.
